Melalui situs resmi dari Billboard Japan, para pemenang dari Billboard JAPAN Music Awards 2012 telah diumumkan pada tanggal 15 Desember 2012 kemarin. Terdapat 2 kategori utama dalam penghargaan ini, Artist Awards dan Chart Awards.
Artist Awards merupakan penghargaan dengan nominasi artis-artis yang telah menduduki puncak Billboard Charts sepanjang tahun ini dan pemenang dipilih dengan cara voting yang dilakukan melalui telepon seluler dan internet bersama dengan poin dari grafik mingguan, Yang kedua adalah Chart Awards, yang diberikan untuk lagu-lagu yang berhasil menduduki peringkat tahunan.
Penghargaan utama tahun ini, Artist of the Year, jatuh kepada idol group AKB48. Ini adalah tahun kedua berturut-turut untuk AKB48 dalam menerima penghargaan karena selain penghargaan Artist of the Year, AKB48 juga meraih penghargaan-penghargaan lainnya seperti Top Pop Artist, Hot 100 of the Year dan Hot Singles Sales of the Year.
